Blood, Sweat, and Spikes
The decline of civilization in the face of wild nature.
Sombra-Deliciosa lives peacefully in the Colorado desert. He spends his days observing the movement of colours on the rocks from sunrise to sunset. At night, he watches the stars. And this is the story of his life from the moment he was born until the moment when, unexpectedly, he is cruelly struck by love.
Cruelly because, being Shadow-Delicious a cactus with its feet buried in the arid rocks, how can it approach the unfurled Duchese? Cruelly, because, being Delicious Shadow, a cactus is by nature very limited in the physical expression of his affection. And, if all this were not enough, how can he thwart the sinister plans of Botifarra, the sheriff, fiancé, in an arranged marriage, of the fluttering Duchese? Is a happy ending possible for such an unfortunate love?
what the festival has to say
We are presented with a creation from a company that, over the years, has participated in this Festival with distinctive proposals, where techniques are deeply intertwined.
An impossible love between impossible elements is revealed in the form of a “western” that blends the technique of paper theatre inspired by Japanese paper theatres with intense and powerful graphic imagery, converging into a satirical narrative. The impossible love of a cactus for a cotton plant.
And if art knows how to do one thing, it is to construct narratives based on metaphors that make us ponder the reality that surrounds us.
Alma d'Arame - Teatro Marionetas
We believe that art transforms lives. The transformative effect that art can have on individuals and society gives us hope that each of us has the personal power to bring about change. We work to nurture this hope.
In 2006, we founded a cultural association, with a history marked by artistic creation, cultural programming, training, and collaboration with local entities in the form of community projects.
We contribute to the promotion of the performing arts, focusing on theatre, especially puppet theatre. Since 2008, we have organized and produced the International Puppet Festival. At the same time, every year we premiere between one and two of our own creations. Cultural projects, mainly involving the school and senior communities, constitute the last axis of our public intervention.
