A frenetic pace, an absolutely visual narrative, with surprising pyrotechnic effects and illusions. It's one of the oldest texts in traditional Portuguese puppet theater, “Dom Roberto”, a national intangible heritage.

How could we not welcome back the Teatro de Robertos? We love filling our gardens with this traditional form of theater, keeping memories alive, carrying on the legacy, and being able to present a work that is part of our national intangible cultural heritage—one we want to value, honor, and expand. Our grandparents say they remember these puppets from their childhood, in the squares and gardens, and we want to keep that memory alive.
The islands come to us: the artist, so to speak, arrives with his beautiful Terceira accent. VumTeatro sails toward us, bringing the traditional stories of the devilish barber and the Portuguese-style bullfight, which inspire us to recount these incredible traditional tales of a barber who is about to get married and then refuses to pay me, forcing him to face countless struggles and ultimately triumph over death itself—a victory over life, embodying the puppet’s ultimate power: the smallest puppet capable of defeating death, triumphing over everything and everyone, representing the people and those who, in some way, smile victoriously in the face of such innocence.
VumTeatro
The VUMTEATRO Collective has been based on the island of Terceira-Azores since 2019. There are two actors, Ricardo and Raquel, an architect-sculptor, Marcos Evangelho, and Arlinda Lopes, who is a costume designer and artisan. They dedicate themselves mainly to the Dom Roberto Traditional Portuguese Theater, putting on shows from the popular repertoire but also new stories and a construction workshop for children: "robertins". In 2020 they created "Papamundos: teatro de sombras e outras inexistências", a story full of humor and play for all ages.
