We are in the midst of the final weekend of Ei! Marionetas - Gondomar International Puppet Festival. Throughout the week, we dedicated the program to school groups who filled the Gondomar Municipal Auditorium to watch the show by the Vila Real company, “Urze Teatro,” which brought us a theatrical creation that addresses the theme of freedom and the moment of transition of this achievement, through puppets and animated forms.Registration for the workshops and games was sold out. The presentation of “Sangue, Suor e Picos” by the company “Alma d'Arame - Teatro Marionetas” from Alentejo, more specifically from Montemor-o-Novo, was also sold out. Thus, important objectives of this festival were fulfilled: audience mediation, a diverse offering, educational service, in a deep relationship with the pedagogy that art should have in child development, laying the foundation for memories for their cognitive, analytical, critical, and creative development. We are thus sowing these seeds so that they can be replicated in the future, in this event that has been repeated for 11 years.
We have made this one of the flagships of our program. Thus, we believe that by watching the show, building a puppet, performing and taking part in the games and the play area, we leave in the memory of these young people's growth the opportunity to enjoy the art of puppetry as an act of cultural democracy.
We are grateful for the joint effort of the Municipality of Gondomar, associations, schools, and leisure centers, which have dedicated some of their time to be with us and together build a common cultural asset.

What an incredible weekend this was. It was a great pleasure to be able to participate in countless activities, see different companies from different places with different proposals, talk, observe, and just be.This is an artistic mission, to look after the well-being of our community, to nurture its health, its energy, its social interaction, to be able to provide moments of wonder, laughter, reflection, amazement, thought, or even awe.
We began the weekend with cultural offerings in the city and parishes, expanding the mission of this Festival!
Art, and puppet theater in particular, are proposals of great value, as they converge numerous languages and provide different experiences. Coming to Ei! is above all an experience for the senses, on these hot days, under the cool trees, watching a show, participating in a workshop, or viewing an exhibition. It will certainly remain etched in our memory and leave seeds for the future.
And we still have a whole week of activities and a final weekend full of artistic offerings. Long live puppets! Ei!
MEGAFONE PRÉMIO - THE SCULPTURE AND SYMBOLISM
The name of this event comes from the combination of the words Encontro Internacional de Marionetas (International Puppet Festival) and, with the intention of launching a cultural cry, we added the word “Ei!” as a call for attention. We believe it was a happy combination, a cry for culture, a cry for art, and above all a cry for the art of puppetry. The graphic image that soon became associated with this project was that of a megaphone, amplifying the cry of Hey!We understand that from that point on, the dimension of this graphic image took on a predominant role in the identity of the Festival itself. Thus, over the last few years, we have been searching for identity through the artistic team that coordinates the Company, namely Rúben Gomes, whose three-dimensional sculptural work is undoubtedly extraordinary. He then embarked on a journey of discovery in the digital and graphic design universe, a dimension that combines two-dimensional and three-dimensional creative work, becoming a technical challenge as he so well characterizes himself in this search for artistic challenges, whatever their visual dimension.
The intention is that this year's 2025 edition should offer a diverse range of objects and puppets that challenge mechanical universes, whether they be automatons, robots, or techniques that explore the manipulator as a generator of movement, which the viewer sees. So even before we had a graphic image of this edition, we had the artist in his workshop, opening drawers from which he took out hardware, tools, and various metal objects, which he scattered, painted, placed in the space, and then used only his “impressions,” which were transferred to the digital universe, putting the objects in suspension for another phase.
From these suggestions of hardware worked with aerosol paints and paper, we moved on to computing. The graphic arrangement combined all these pieces to become the base image of our megaphone and the words that became the symbol of this festival, Ei! The colours were then worked on, giving continuity to the identity of the Festival itself, which works a lot with yellow, representative of the filigree and gold of Gondomar, and blue, which represents the space of the river that delimits the geographical area of this municipality.
Returning to the hardware, which initially gave rise to the poster… it was stored and delivered to another artist with whom the company has collaborated since its inception, Migvel Tepes. The intention was to create an award, a three-dimensional object, which aimed to honour an artist, a puppeteer, with a career and a project of recognized merit. In this edition, it was given to the artist Delphim Miranda, who over the years has always been a fascinating artist whom we greatly admire. From these metal parts, a megaphone was built, where the objects had a space to occupy, transforming themselves into a symbol that is also an action in this case. The megaphone is the act of shouting, where hardware is transformed into breath, into sound, and the megaphone seems to be used, with words coming out of it in the form of tools, thus concluding this intention of the art of puppetry, of creating dialogue using objects and animated forms as a methodology for dialogue with the public.
The colours that make up this object, in addition to being colours present in the poster, are above all the primary colours that characterize Delphim Miranda's work. Whether it is because of the naïve side of his objects or his career as a teacher of visual arts, there is a meeting of ideas and metaphors, of mental processes that we somehow mirror here, so that it is possible to understand that the work of puppetry, like the work of sculpture, has a whole dramaturgical process that is often hidden, but which, for us as a creative team, gives us immense pleasure and allows us to know that the final object is the result of a sum, not only of plasticity but also of converging ideas, intentions, and thoughts.
We believe that the processes of constructing graphic identities can be carried out by many artists who somehow combine the symbolism of graphic identity with the object, thus becoming graphic puppeteers, or perhaps this is just a metaphor.
SANDRA NEVES PUPPETS
Sandra Neves' exhibition is open to the public at the Municipal Library of Gondomar. What an incredible journey this is, taking us through different artistic, aesthetic, and dramaturgical universes. Countless companies have lent objects created by the sculptor, which are now gathered together in a space for dialogue. Here, there are no rules regarding scale, type of manipulation, or materials. Here, each of the puppets brings to life ideas that were born from the artist's hands. We say it's a must-see! Come and see and delight in the worlds that Sandra Neves reveals to us.

EI! MARIONETAS TEAM
The events we hold in a given area are organized by a large team. We are all aware of the immense amount of work, often invisible, that goes into organizing a major event such as this one, which has been taking place in the city of Gondomar for 11 years now. It requires tireless coordination, and the municipal team dedicated to culture is essential to the success of this event. These are the faces you know, these are the faces that accompany you, and these are the faces that support us during the organization of Ei! Marionetas - Gondomar International Puppet Festival. We would like to thank you in advance for your commitment and dedication. We hope that this year will bring us unforgettable moments of artistic and cultural enjoyment! We look forward to seeing you there!MAYOR OF GONDOMAR SPEECH
Words from the Mayor of GondomarDr. Luís Filipe Araújo
Ei! Marionetas is already part of our cultural calendar and it was a project that we embraced from the very first edition, with a special affection. We, the Department of Culture, immediately realized that we were dealing with a well-structured project, led by competent people who knew and know what they are doing, with great dedication to this project. Therefore, we immediately stood side by side with this great team so that Ei! Marionetas could be what it is today, a truly remarkable project in the culture of Gondomar and beyond!
I think that Ei! Marionetas is on the cultural calendar of the entire country.
This year we will have another edition. It is an event that always involves our community as a whole, especially the institutions and schools that are always closely involved and actively participate in the Meeting itself, so I invite everyone to visit and attend Ei! Marionetas!
I am sure that we will have a wide range of offerings for all audiences, and I am also sure that we will meet in the coming days at these brilliant shows that we will be able to attend.
Thank you very much, Ei! Marionetas!
